Muang Ake Vista Golf Course is a relatively short par 70 course that is located in Muang Ake in Pathum Thani. The course is surrounded by large homes and estates bordering its fairways. It's where some affluent Thai military, police officers, and businessmen live. It's located next to Rangsit University.
Rangsit University (RSU) has just purchased Muang Ake Vista Golf Course and is said to be investing 80 million baht into renovations and improvements. Hopefully, some of that will be put into improving and maintaining their greens.
Muang Ake Vista Golf Course used to have a reputation as being a nice golf course prior to the major flooding in Bangkok in 2011. During the 2011 floods, the entire course and clubhouse were mostly submerged completely underwater. This caused major damage to the entire golf course and clubhouse. And the effects can still be seen today.
Today, the fairways are more like light rough. The bunkers are mostly dirt. The greens are very inconsistent from one green to the next in terms of types of grass, length of grass, and speed. For us, the greens are the most frustrating because unless you play there all the time, it's very hard to guess how your putts will roll every time you're on a new green.
The course is fairly tight and requires accurate shots. It's deceptively difficult. We have gone with many single handicapped and pro golfers and have not seen anyone break par. The very inconsistent greens could also be part of the issue.
Another characteristic of the course is that many holes are protected either by bunkers or water in the front and bunkers or water in the back. This requires high approach shots to stop and hold the greens. Rolling approach shots on the greens is difficult when there are bunkers in front of the greens.
The course attracts mostly Thai players with some foreigners. The course is generally busy on Tuesday and Friday during "Sports Day" where players only have to pay one green fee and can play unlimited rounds. Play can be rather slow during busy times. So be prepared to wait.
Muang Ake Vista Golf Course also has lighting for night golf for 18 holes. Currently, they are not open for night golf. But it should become available soon in 2022.
Overall, Muang Ake Vista Golf Course is a good practice course for beginners or short hitters. Long hitters and better players might find the course frustrating due to inconsistent greens, lack of maintenance of fairways, and bunkers.
